Limits of this data.

This post counts insurance filings and cancellations as FMCSA publishes them. It does not rate insurers and says nothing about any insurer's financial strength, claims handling, pricing, underwriting or conduct.

The sample is small and one-sided: only liability filings on federal records since FMCSA's May 18, 2026 move to Motus, only for dirt, rock and aggregate haulers with federal authority. Most dump truck haulers are intrastate and file with their state, if at all, and are not here.

A cancellation can be started by the carrier, by the insurer, or for non-payment, and many are followed by a replacement policy from the same or another insurer. A count of cancellations is not a cancellation rate, and the two lists below cannot be divided to make one.

Insurer names appear as filed with FMCSA. Several companies may belong to one insurance group. Not legal, insurance or financial advice. Talk to your insurance agent.

Next steps

When hiring, the insurer matters less than whether coverage is on file today and whether a cancellation is pending. Check a hauler on HaulStanding for both, with its insurer and policy number, then call the insurer to confirm.

How we counted. FMCSA public tables on data.transportation.gov, counted October 13, 2026. "Dump truck haulers" are active for-hire carriers that describe their cargo as dirt, rock, aggregate, asphalt, frac sand or dump work, or whose name says the work. FMCSA does not record truck body type. How we define the groups. Counts are of filings and cancellations, not unique carriers or policies.

Public records as FMCSA publishes them, which can contain errors. Figures describe groups, not any one carrier. Not legal advice.
